Art has the unique ability to bring meaning and humanity into spaces where people need it most. Recently unveiled at the Lucy Curci Cancer Center, Colors of Cancer is a powerful new installation by contemporary artist Ryan Campbell that transforms a clinical environment into one of reflection, hope, and connection. The work is now permanently on view at the center within Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage.
The new work, “Colors of Cancer,” was created to provide a visual message of unity and support for patients, families, and caregivers who pass through the center’s doors each day. The installation draws inspiration from the many colors used in cancer awareness ribbons, each representing different types of cancer and the communities that rally around those affected. Together, the colors form a powerful symbol of compassion, resilience, and shared strength.
For Campbell, the project is deeply rooted in empathy. The artwork serves as a reminder that no one facing cancer does so alone. Through color and visual symbolism, the piece aims to offer encouragement and reassurance to those navigating diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Healthcare leaders at Eisenhower Health emphasize that art plays an important role in creating a more human-centered environment, helping patients and visitors find moments of reflection and emotional connection within a clinical setting.
The installation was made possible through the generosity of donor Deborah Page, whose support helped bring the project to life. As the Lucy Curci Cancer Center continues its mission to provide comprehensive care to the Coachella Valley community, the addition of thoughtful artistic elements like Colors of Cancer reinforces the idea that healing involves more than medicine alone—it also involves hope, humanity, and the power of creative expression.
