Melissa Morgan Fine Art is pleased to present new ceramic sculptures by Nobuhito Nishigawara. Known for his distinctive fusion of traditional Japanese influences and contemporary form, Nishigawara creates abstracted ceramic works that are both grounded and expressive. His refined surfaces and sculptural shapes invite quiet reflection, offering a thoughtful exploration of cultural identity, personal history, and modern aesthetics.

Nobuhito says of his Qualia Series: "Through my work, I create a diary of my subconscious. Constantly evolving yet marking each moment – the unspoken, intuitive feelings that emerge through making. A range of textures, colors, and forms give shape to my spiritual inner-self within the physical world. The physical handmade is grounding as it gives shape to the unspoken, intuitive aspects of myself. Textured forms, varied scales, and diverse shapes reflect the complexities of the mind, perception, and human nature. Together, my work reflects the variation of life with the aim to develop a balance between the introspective self and the vast external world."

Nishigawara was born in and raised in Nagoya, Japan until 1990 when he moved to Vancouver, Canada. He began studying sculptural ceramics in 1993 and graduated from University College of Fraser Valley, Canada in 1996. Nishigawara also received a BFA in ceramics from Kansas City Art Institute in 1999 and a MFA from Arizona State University in 2002.
