Join us in congratulating Osceola Refetoff for winning Best Photo Essay and Photojournalist of the Year at the 16th National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards presented by the Los Angeles Press Club.
The judges' comment: "Refetoff's wonderful black & white landscape photos - reminiscent of Ansel Adams - coupled with outstanding color landscape and portrait photos to illustrate articles earns him the Photojournalist of the Year award."
Refetoff's environmental photojournalism is regularly featured on PBS SoCal's multi-Emmy-winning Artbound, and in The Guardian, The New York Times, and The New Republic. His previous awards include Los Angeles Press Club Photojournalist of the Year in 2018, and 1st Place awards for Best Feature Photo (2019, 2023) and Photo Essay (2018, 2019, 2020, 2023).
MMFA is truly honored to represent Refetoff and celebrate his outstanding achievements.
Refetoff's large-scale, intensely saturated, infrared prints from his newest series Chromatopia, that were included in the exhibition Problematic Palms, curated by Shana Nys Dambrot, at the Marks Art Center in Palm Desert, will be on view at Melissa Morgan Fine Art with an opening reception on February 2 from 4-7pm.
