"Maquettes are generally made as studies for larger works. When I begin working on large pieces I always work with live models and I always begin with quick drawings and loose clay studies. Since 1980 I have been casting many of the original clay studies into bronze maquettes. The maquettes that most appeal to me then get enlarged. Sometimes maquettes are enlarged to life sized and sometimes they are enlarged to monumental scale." - Curt Brill
