Meltdown
Meltdown Chair Series by Tom Price is created by the genius and innovative technique of heating and pressing a seat-shaped former into a ball of polypropylene rope. The ball of ropes begin to liquefy as it comes into contact with heat, and as it cools, it sets in the shape of a seat creating a contrast in form and texture to the remaining rope. No additional material has been added to make the seats and it is all made from melted rope only.
For Price, the process is as important as the final product, "I like to think of myself as working in collaboration with materials, processes, and phenomena, and that the final physical outcome is a product of mutual consent," says Price.
