David Robinson is a Canadian artist whose common theme revolves around the direct relationship a man (or woman) has with their environment: a juxtaposition between the figure and an element whether it be architectural or abstract. The figure’s form is always in an intentional physical bond with the element with which it is interacting, always seemingly striving towards a goal. The balancing act of the man and the chair is perhaps a relatively straight forward analogy for the balancing act we all go through in life, but in this work there is a confidence in his subject’s achievement. Many observers have commented that this balancing is the source of the strength in the work.
